Who is your style icon?

Whilst looking through my old blog idea notes, I found an idea I'd had to write a blog about who my style icons were. I had written down who I considered to be inspirational with outfits at the time. Looking at that list now, I find it so interesting to see how much that has changed.

Back then my list consisted of best friend YouTubers Sophia and Cinzia and American YouTuber Julia Havens. Though I still love these women and still religiously watch their YouTube videos, I now wouldn't consider them to be my personal style inspirations. Whilst at Uni, I did a very practical course which required me to constantly be in active wear. This is probably the reason I loved these women's styles so much as they incorporated a lot of joggers, hoodies and sportswear into their everyday style. However, I now like to think of my style as a mixture of 90s preppy chic and London girl classic with occasionally a few masculine type pieces.

So as my style, fashion preferences and inspirations have since changed, I thought I would make a new list of who I now consider to be my style icons and why.

1. Lorna Luxe

Lorna Luxe has been a massive icon to me for a while for many different reasons. I was sent her profile by a friend and have been in love with her, her style and her lifestyle ever since. Lorna has brought out many collections with InTheStyle which I have purchased from over the last few years and have loved. The main reason I love her style so much is because it is so chic and smart. Even if she is in loungewear or pyjamas, they still look so elegant and put together. Another reason I find her an inspiration is because she gives styling advice, like how to make your outfit and wardrobe items look more expensive. She also is seen by many as quite a relatable influencer because she wears a mixture of both designer and high street and if she does purchase a designer item, she will always find and share cheaper high street versions.

2. India Moon

Another influencer I consider to be a style icon is India Moon, whom I found on Instagram this summer. I have previously really struggled with styling myself during the hotter months as I struggle with body confidence and feel there is less clothing in summer to cover myself up with. However, when I discovered India, I was so inspired by the way she had styled her wardrobe and it gave me a big boost of confidence. India has an amazing YouTube channel where she films hauls and vlogs outlining her style choices and what items work well with others. Her outfits are very everyday and casual so I find them easy to replicate.

3. Rachel Green

I have always been a Friends fan but have recently have started re-watching and I’ve fallen in love with Rachel Green and her style! Though I appreciate her early seasons style, I am really inspired by her outfits when she starts working in the fashion industry and would describe these looks as preppy 90s. Rewatching Friends has really influenced my wardrobe recently and I have started experimenting more with mini skirts, tights and heeled boots. Rachel matches a lot of her work outfits making them look cohesive and thought out. I view Rachel Green as an icon not just for her style choices but her career path as well, as that is a similar path I would like to take in life.

4. Zendaya

Though Zendaya has a more high end style that isn’t as achievable to replicate, she is still a huge style icon to me. I love how she mixes feminine styles with traditionally masculine styles like tailored suits. Though I'm sure she has a beauty team, she always looks chic and sophisticated. Though not as relatable as the others, I still hope to have a style to be envied one day like hers and have a grand wardrobe I’ve worked hard to get.

There are many other women I would also consider to be style icons for different reasons, like Princess Diana for a more dressed up style, Victoria Beckham for a more chic work style and Alexa Chung for a more street, casual look. Whilst writing this blog, I have come to recognise that there are so many differences between each of my icons. Lorna and India are quite similar and easy to replicate where as Zendaya's fashion style is something I aspire to in my wardrobes of the future. It is nice to see that all aspects of what I consider to be my style is represented within these women.

So for now these are my current style icons but maybe in six months time these will have changed again and I can give you an updated answer to this question!

All my love

Gracie Marie Keenan
